I gyrraedd y maes parcio ar ddechrau'r cwrs (wedi ei farcio gyda "P" yn y map uchod), cymerwch y troad wedi ei labelu "Penmachno" ar yr A5 (tua 2 milltir o Betws-y-Coed mewn cyfeiriad de-ddwyreiniol); trafaeliwch ar hyd y B4406 am 2 filltir cyn cyrraedd Penmachno; ewch drwy Benmachno (gan fynd dros y bont a throi i'r chwith pan welwch Westy'r Eryrod); ac ewch ymlaen am tua hanner milltir cyn gweld cychwyn ffordd goedwig ar eich ochr dde. To get to the car park at the beginning of the track (marked with a "P" in the map above), take the Penmachno turning from the A5 (about 2 miles from Betws-y-Coed in a south-east direction); continue along the B4406 for 2 miles until you get to Penmachno; go through Penmachno (by going over the bridge and bearing left when you get to the Eagles Hotel); and continue for just under half a mile until you see the entrance to the forest road on your right. The car park is a couple of hundred yards along the forest road.

Mae'r trac yn cychwyn wrth ymyl y giât sy'n gyfagos i'r maes parcio lle mae hefyd bord yn dangos gwybodaeth am y trac a bocs pres ar gyfer cyfraniadau. Mae 46 postyn arwydd ar y cwrs i gyd, a dylai gymryd unrhyw amser rhwng awr a hanner a 3 awr a hanner i orffen y cwrs. Yn ystod misoedd y gaeaf, gallai'r trac fod yn eithaf mwdlyd, felly dewch a dillad addas.

The track starts at the gate near the car park, where there is a board displaying information about the track and an honesty box for contributions. There are 46 Waymarker posts on the track in total, and it should take anywhere between 1 and a half to 3 and a half hours to complete the course. During the winter months, the track can get quite muddy, so bring appropriate clothing.

The track starts with a climb up Gadlas Ddôl hill, one of two major climbs on the course. The mountain on your right is called Pen-y-Bryn mountain, and the goal in this first section of the course is to get to the front of the mountain so as to catch a glimpse of Penmachno from above.

The first waymarker is labelled 100 and directs the rider to take a sharp right turn.

Looking right during this part of the ascent, we can spot the car park below; Penmachno in the distance; and several bridges crossing the river, including Pont Newydd (shown below) and Pont Oernant, a popular bathing spot during the summer.

Looking behind us and to the left, we spot a disused quarry and several farms. We will pass closer to these farms during the final part of the course.

When we reach the entrance to the first single track section, it is possible to see half on Penmachno beneath us. For a better view of Penmachno, navigate to where a public footpath crosses the forestry road at point 784 508 on the map above, and follow the public footpath for a couple of hundred yards in a westerly direction.

Mae'r darn cyntaf o'r trac sengl yn gorffen ein dringad o'r maes parcio, ac yn ein gadael tua 280m uwchben lefel y môr (roedd y maes parcio tua 160m uwchben lefel y môr). Am y rheswm yma, ac am fod darn canol y trac sengl yma yn gallu bod yn eithaf llithrig pan yn wlyb, efallai mai'r darn hwn o'r trac sengl yw'r darn mwyaf diflas ar y cwrs i gyd — sy'n golygu fod darnau gwell i ddod!

The first section of single track is the final part of our initial ascent, taking us to a point approximately 280m above sea level (we began around 160m above sea level). For this reason, and because the middle third of this section can get quite slippery when wet, the first section of single track is perhaps the least inspiring section on the whole course — which means that better sections are to come!

After a short climb along the forestry road, we enter the second section of single track at Post 104.

The steepest descent on this section occurs right at the beginning; otherwise the track is straight and easily ridden.

On exiting the single track section near Post 106, we turn right and continue along the forest road.

A short climb takes us up to Post 107, where we turn right again and start a descent towards the next post which is located on the left. We note that were we to ignore Post 107 and continue straight ahead on the forest road, then we would take a shortcut to a crossroads where Post 129 is located.

The next single track section is the longest one so far and starts by encountering a crossing with a public footpath going from Cwm Penmachno to Penmachno (or vice-versa).

Eventually we emerge from the woodlands and rejoin the forest road. Listen carefully and you will hear the River Glasgwm to your right.

The next section of road is perhaps the toughest on the course because of how steep the track is. After negotiating a series of turns, the top of the hill arrives when we encounter a meeting of several roads.

Coming up the hill, the correct direction to proceed is to the right and over the bridge. Alternatively, we can turn left and take a shortcut along the forest road to the crossroads at Post 129; or, for a more interesting shortcut, we can continue straight ahead up the hill to Post 124.

Yn y gorffennol, mae ralïau ceir wedi taranu ar hyd y ffyrdd goedwig yma, gyda dau gymal fel arfer ym Mhenmachno ("Gogledd Penmachno" a "De Penmachno"). Gwelodd y gornel yma ddiwedd Rali RAC Malcolm Wilson un flwyddyn pan wnaeth o droi ei gar i mewn i'r afon.

In the past, car rallies have often utilised these roads; with two stages usually set in Penmachno ("Penmachno North" and "Penmachno South"). This particular corner saw the end of Malcolm Wilson's RAC rally one year when he overturned his car into the river.

The road now turns and starts to head back towards Penmachno, before we begin the first of four consecutive sections of single track, interspersed only by short forest road sections. At this point we are approximately 360m above sea level.

During the first three sections of single track, we descend around 110m to be approximately 250m above sea level. This is where the downhill section ends however, and we now begin the second major climb on the course, all the way to beyond Post 123. This is also the point at which we are around a third of the distance around the course (having travelled 4.5 of the 12.25 miles); anyone feeling tired here can easily return to the car park by following the road down to the right, going left at the gate, and turning right when you reach the junction near the Eagles Hotel.

Here we begin by quickly ascending up the hill via a series of U bends. Looking to the right, we can again see Penmachno in the distance; Glasgwm below us; and one side of Pen-y-Bryn mountain (the opposite side to the one we began from).

When we reach the forestry road again, the track continues to the left. Looking right however, we can see a gate followed by a junction with a road running perpendicular to us. This is the road that leads up to Tŷ Mawr Wybrnant, the birthplace of William Morgan, the first translator of the Bible into Welsh.
